Cooking & Faith

What's the connection?

What does my kitchen have to do with my Christian life? Everything! Every day of the week Christian women struggle with the daily nagging question of "what's for dinner". With our increasingly busy lifestyles it is becoming harder and harder to answer that question. Dinners at the drive-through and cereal for supper are common for lots of active families. But everyone longs for a better way. Home-cooked food, unhurried time together, extra for sharing and ministry. That's what 30 Day Gourmet is all about!

DINNER WITH THE FAMILY
For most Christians, family time around the dinner table and evenings spent together are important. Unfortunately, having that quality time requires FOOD! Meals that are readily available help the family cook pull everyone together at the dinner hour.

"God has surely blessed you both with an extraordinary friendship and cooking ministry to help others. Utilizing your book has helped me spend less daily time in the kitchen and given me more time to enjoy my family- especially at dinner! God bless you. "
Carolyn from IN

"As a teacher, wife and mom of two, I enjoy knowing what we are eating ahead of time. Preparing meals in advance allows more time for me to spend with my family in the evenings. I save an average of one hour every evening. Thank you for this cookbook!"
Carol from Millstadt, IL

"I have 6 year old twin boys and don't have the energy to cook in the evenings! Thank you so much for your cookbook. It is so nice to just go to the freezer and pull out whatever I want for supper and almost all of the work is already done!"
Lisa from Kokomo, IN

"We lived on store-bought frozen meals and now my family thinks dinner has never been better! We noticed a change in our hospitality also, now we invite people over and take dinners to others. My family can't wait to see what I make for dinner each night."
Beverly from Lansing, MI

HOSPITALITY
A natural extension of our faith has always been sharing food with others. What better way to touch the life of an ill neighbor, help a new mother or reach out to that new family at church. Most of us really want to extend hospitality but in the rush of our daily lives we just can't find the time. 30 Day Gourmet has helped thousands of Christians meet the needs of others in a creative way by having extra food on hand.

"Love your book. I'm gearing up to cook for my sister-in-law who has cancer. I want to help stock her freezer to make it easier on her."
Cheryl from Satellite Beach, FL

"I love 30 Day Gourmet cooking! I just froze 24 meals for $108! Last Christmas, my 17 year old daughter had the idea of cooking for elderly shut-ins. With the help of a friend, she prepared 9 recipes for 10 different people. They delivered the meals on Christmas Eve. It was a great community project! They are already talking about doing it again at spring break."
Kathy from Anderson, IN

"Your book has changed the way I cook! My family loves the recipes. Your system is SO easy. We are missionaries to high school kids and your manual has helped our ministry so much by giving me the ability to be more hospitable and share our meals with many others. Thank you!"
Kim from Dayton, OH

"I'm so glad that I started using your book before I was faced with a sudden surgery. I never had to worry about what the family would eat and could use all of those offers of help for child care not dishes of lasagna. I am convinced this is the only way to go! "
Julie from Knoxville, TN

"Great book, gals! I was able to reward the computer repairman with Frozen Peanut Butter Bars today - never had anything on hand like that before!"
JoAnna from OR

A WHOLE DAY WITH A FRIEND
Tara and Nanci encourage cooking with a partner - a friend that you just don't get to spend enough time with, or even your spouse, daughter or sister. What better way to enjoy fellowship and end the day with 30 entrees for your freezer!

"My friend and I just spent the day cooking. We had a ton of fun and the convenience of having the food ready to go almost makes me feel guilty. The whole experience was so enjoyable!"
Sandy from Davison, MI

"Many thanks from a busy pastor's wife and mom of two. My husband often calls late in the afternoon asking if he can bring someone from church home for dinner. I no longer have to go into a state of panic! He has even volunteered to be my cooking partner. We both love to cook and have been needing some quality time together."
Sue from Colcester, IL

"My girlfriend and I just started cooking yesterday and had a great time planning, cooking, talking, and spending time together. Thanks and may God continue to bless your friendship."
Yvonne from Milwaukee, WI

"I was praying for a cooking partner. It turns out that my best partner may be my 14 year old daughter. She read your whole manual today! Thanks for sharing this method of meal preparation with us."
Julie from Fresno, CA

COOKING AS A CHURCH PROJECT

  • A cooking team of 10 ladies at a church in Fishers, Indiana meet once a month in the church kitchen and assemble 30 entrees for each of them to take home. They also "tithe" 30 entrees in the church's freezer to be used for shut-ins, new moms and funeral dinners. What a great idea!

  • There's a group of ten 30 Day Gourmets in Illinois called the "Mama-Be-Cookin' Club". These gals don't have time to get together once a month so they have a quick meeting at church and each choose a recipe. Every cook makes 30 entrees and then they meet again and sell them to each other. (A great idea for the cooking-challenged. You only have to know how to make ONE thing!)

  • Many 30 Day Gourmets are speaking to women's groups at their churches and helping others get started. One duo of 30 Day Gourmets in Rockford, Illinois has launched 7 more cooking partnerships by letting the new cooks come and observe them on cooking days.

30 Day Gourmets Nanci Slagle and Tara Wohlenhaus are trying to do more than sell Christian women another cookbook. Their prayer and hope is that by teaching family cooks a new way of meal preparation, families will eat together more often, eat healthier and have more time and resources for ministry. All that from frozen food? You betcha!
