Date Ideas from
30 Day Gourmeters
Let’s start with a
joke cuz we should never take our romance too
seriously!
My parents had not
been out together in quite some time.
One Saturday, as Mom was finishing the dinner dishes,
my father stepped up behind her. "Would you like to go
out,
girl?" he asked.
Not even turning around, my mother quickly replied,
"Oh, yes, I'd love to!"
They had a wonderful time. It wasn't until the end of
the evening that Dad finally confessed that his
question had
actually been directed to the family dog, laying near
Mom's feet on the kitchen floor.
And here are some ideas that were sent in:
How about getting tickets for the two of you to a
sporting event and packing a "tailgate" picnic?

Hi Nanci,
You said you needed a date idea that your husband
would like... My husband really loves to play pinball
machines. For five dollars, you could spend at least
an hour at the arcade, particularly if you're not a
bad player! If it becomes a group date with the other
couples from church, it's even more fun because the
men are usually pretty competitive!
Best of luck!

Get an overnight sitter. I do this by trading once a
month with another family. Check out rates of bed and
breakfasts...or hotels...some fancier ones have great
discounts...set the room up that day...bring his (and
your)
toiletries, fresh clothes for morning, etc. Some wine
is a nice touch. Take husband out on a date...out to
eat is perfect... Then go to the hotel. He will be
surprised out of his gourd. This is really a great way
to show HIM you love him...by setting everything up
and making it very special.

Hi Nanci,
I'm new to your website and want to congratulate you
not only on the helpful work you are doing for women
everywhere, but because you have such an upbeat
attitude about cooking! It's "catching" even via
cyberspace :-).
I don't know, but is Slagle a German name? or Swiss?
Depending on your husband's ethnic heritage you might
do what I did for my husband's birthday -- he is of
Irish descent so I found an Irish bar/restaurant and
took him there for dinner (and a Guiness, which I
happen to like myself!) and then to a performance of
an Irish band that was playing at a community center
here in town. Dinner was under $10 a plate and
admission to the music was $5 a head. He loves good
food and good music and it was a real surprise to him
and lots of fun for me.
Anyway, good luck with your "assignment" and thanks
again for sharing your spirit.

I had been away training for a new job for 20 weeks. I
finally returned to my fiancé (now my husband) I
wanted to do something special, but did not have
enough money to surprise him with a weekend away
(besides our work schedules didn't permit it). I
bought a cassette tape of ocean waves and of a
tropical rain forest and hid the tape players behind
the couch. I used inexpensive fabric remnants, plastic
placemats, and a white sheet and covered the living
room; transformed the entire room into a tropical
island. I then cooked coconut shrimp and mixed
tropical drinks. The only part that didn't work out
was that I tried using fresh coconut. Have you have
bought a whole coconut and tried to crack one? After a
frustrating 45 minutes in the driveway trying to smash
the )&*((*&^( thing (and realizing I still had to
grate the coconut!) I borrowed some grated coconut
from my neighbor and used the coconut to "decorate"
the tropical island. It was actually a very fun
evening and my now husband was very surprised. Hope
this inspires you.
Sincerely,
Lisa C.
