Bridal Shower
At one of our bridal showers, we play a game with
canned goods. The bride is asked questions about her
husband to be and if she gets it right, she gets the
can, intact. But if she gets the question wrong, the
label gets ripped off. Of course she gets to take all
the cans home. I have heard some brides say it made
for some interesting mystery meals!
For a gift, I like to give what I call a complete set.
The gift would be a nice cookie sheet, a bag of flour,
a bag of sugar, a bag of brown sugar, baking soda,
salt, and chocolate chips along with a cookie recipe.
Or a
mini roaster pan with spices, foil, a small bottle of
dish soap and a scrubber sponge. In the non-food
category, a laundry basket with soap, dryer sheets,
bleach, color safe bleach and a few nice trinkets. The
best thing about giving those kind of gifts, is many
folks reciprocated when I got married.

Stock the Kitchen Surprise
My daughter was married last Saturday. They are now on
a 10 day cruise & I have the keys to their apartment.
Between my husband and me, Grandma and a couple of
friends who all chipped in with money, we totally
MAXED-OUT-STUFFED & STOCKED their kitchen. I included
all the staples, seasonings, dressings, sauces,
condiments, tons of meats and frozen vegs., juices,
cereals, grains & legumes, pastas, onions, potatoes,
garlic, canned goods, etc. In the bathroom went
everything from TP to Epson salts and Band-Aids. I
also placed a huge Amway order for all their cleaning
and laundry supplies. And, a heart shaped box of
chocolates is on the bed with an EPT kit. They hope to
soon have children... :)
The day before they return, I'll get the dairy and
fresh produce.
WON'T THEY BE SURPRISED TO COME HOME TO THIS!?!?

Recipe plus everything they need!
Why not just have everyone pick a favorite recipe and
give the recipe with all the necessities to make the
recipe (dishes, utensils, spices, seasonings, and
non-perishable ingredients) How about a bread machine
& recipe with a small bag of flour, yeast packets and
ingredients dry ingredients for the recipe. Or maybe a
crockpot with a favorite slow cooked stew or meatloaf
or whatever with serving utensils and the dry
ingredients for the recipe. Maybe a stock pot with
your favorite pasta or soup recipe with as many of the
dry/canned ingredients as possible. How about freezer
containers with some tried and true freezer recipes.
Lots of possibilities! (How about a favorite cookbook
with recipes book marked and some of the
seasonings/spices for the recipes you've marked).

My Bridal Shower
Bob and I were married 24 years ago next week. We grew
up in the same church and our parents were good
friends (still are). My shower was so much fun and the
thing that I remember most is that they asked each
woman who came to bring me a handwritten recipe that
they make all the time. What a treasure! Many of these
dear ladies are in heaven now and I still pull out
those worn cards and cook up wonderful foods. These
recipes literally got me through that first year of
marriage!
