Tips for Happy Gathering

  1. Suggest that each family be in charge of one recipe and make enough for everyone.

  2. Don’t make a recipe “just because”.  For years, I served cranberry sauce because my mother did.  One year I finally realized that none of us ever ate it!

  3. If traveling, use an ice chest to keep cold

  4. foods chilled and insulated food carriers to keep hot foods hot.  Don’t travel with perishable items at room temperature for more than two hours.

  5. If meals are scheduled at odd times of the day, keep children and other hungry guests satisfied by providing a few light snacks or appetizers.

  6. Understand that children who only see these foods once or twice a year may not be very tolerant of trying a whole plateful!  The tolerance will have to start with you!
